Mezzanines & Storage Products was approached by Workspace Oxford to assess the feasibility of creating a highly unusual three-level mezzanine floor installation within an existing factory unit.
The objective was to transform the industrial space into attractive, modern office accommodation while maximising the available floor area and maintaining an open, contemporary working environment.
Following a series of site meetings and detailed discussions with Workspace Oxford's Managing Director, Wayne McLennan, a bespoke structural design was developed to accommodate the ambitious layout. Working closely with the client's design team, we produced a column grid arrangement and structural solution that integrated seamlessly with the existing building structure while delivering the required office space across multiple levels.
The finished installation comprised three interconnected mezzanine levels linked by a carefully planned staircase arrangement:
- Ground floor to central first-floor mezzanine
- First-floor mezzanine to left and right wing mezzanine levels
- Upper-level access to a central loft mezzanine area
Once the design was finalised, structural calculations and detailed CAD drawings were prepared to support the Building Regulations approval process. Following approval, a coordinated installation programme was agreed and the site prepared for construction.
The completed mezzanine installation successfully transformed what was once a conventional factory unit into a distinctive multi-level office environment. The project was delivered on schedule, within budget and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
This challenging and innovative project demonstrated how a bespoke mezzanine flooring solution can unlock the full potential of an existing building, creating practical, attractive workspace without the need for costly relocation or extension works.
